If humanity were to go extinct in the 21st century, then we'd have failed as a species. The 21st century is the test of humanity. Wether we'll succeed and make it to the next century, or we'll fail and end our existence here.

The 21st century is humanity's biggest test in the last billion years. Do we pass it or do we fail it. Wether we'll go extinct in this or the next century, or wether we'll continue to exist beyond the 22nd century. If we'll make it to the 22nd, then we'll make it to the 23rd as well, and the 24th, the 25th, the 26th etc. If we pass the 21st, we'll eventually make it to the 50th century.

Should we fail humanity, then no one will see that test, no one will judge us on it, no one will see the failure, we'll just end. If we fail that test, then no one will ever know how close we were to getting to the next century. We'll just fail silently.

That's why we need to pass this test. That's why we need to ensure humanity's survival. To see how far we'll go and to see how great things will be in the future.
