This is about bagging your own groceries at the self-serve bagging machines attached to the self-checkout machines. This applies to most if not all major grocery store chains. Some may have slightly different systems or options, but most work this way.

I have noticed a lot of older people and not so tech savvy folks are still having cashiers bag their groceries, even if they're just purchasing a few items. And most of the time, they are not even filled to maximum capacity of the bag.

For some reason, cashiers are not telling these people that they can bag their own groceries, or the customers don't realize there is even that option. Some grocery store chains I've worked at would do this intentionally to fill the baggers to capacity. It's an extra person to bag your groceries, and they're usually filling the bags to the brim.

When you bag your own groceries, you can save money on the amount of bags you'll need, fill them to capacity, and get the most out of your money. Plus it's more eco-friendly.

**The option is usually right there under the cashier's screen.**

If you are a cashier: please inform your customers that they have the option to bag their own groceries, especially if they don't have much stuff.
