CMV: Elon Musk's plot to bring Starship to Mars in the next 100 years will fail spectacularly and will do a lot more harm than good.

First of all, this is a bit of a throwaway account for me because I just downloaded this to post this comment, but I'd just like to add that I'm no expert, merely a student who's a bit skeptical. Also, some parts of this will be an updated version of my blog post that I wrote on this topic, for obvious reasons.<br><br>---<br><br>\*\*TL;DR:\*\*<br><br>\*<br><br>\*\*Introduction:\*\*<br><br>Musk's grand plan for humanity is that he wants to simply colonize Mars and use it as a plot device for something drastic to happen to Earth in the near future. This "plot device" he's referring to is called the "High Risk Civilization Collapse." Musk claims that there is a high risk of global collapse, meaning that our civilization will eventually collapse due to massive political instability, depletion of resources, and climate change. He believes that Mars can be humanity's "life insurance policy" in the case that humanity is on the verge of going extinct all of a sudden.
