I was an anti gun Democrat who walked into a gun show, and now I'm a single issue voter.

I was a young and dumb, anti gun, democrat who went to a local gun show on Saturday because I had nothing better to do. I noticed a whole lot of trump hats and MAGA tshirts, but was shocked when a couple of patriots approached me and said, 'Thank you for your service, brother'. I then looked down and realized that I still had my Navy deployed and combat service ribbons on my nascar shirt that I had bought out of disrespect and irony.

I told them that I was a Democrat and walked away, but started to look around at the different vendors and noticed that there was a whole lot of Trump and civil rights merchandise. I realized that gun owners aren't just a bunch of idiot red necks who want to kill kids. After walking around for an hour or so I had many different vendors approach me and thank me for my service.

I started to feel like I was stabbing my brothers in the back for supporting a party that wants to disarm the freedoms of American patriots. I then started to think about why I am a Democrat. I feel like I am a victim as a black man, and believe in welfare to help people who are struggling. I am against the death penalty, so I vote democrat. The more I walked around and the more I noticed that many of the people there were just patriotic people who want the freedom to defend themselves, the more I realized that maybe I have been wrong and the Democratic Party has been manipulating me for my vote.

I am now a Republican, I am registered to vote and will be receiving a Concealed Carry Permit soon and plan on purchasing an AK-47 this week.

Edit: I did not buy an AK-47, I bought an AR-15 and I do receive smash amount of private messages asking me what happened to the gun. Well, I still have my AR-15. I am still the same guy who posted that thread. I am disappointed that the Democratic Party has only become more anti-second amendment, and I will continue to vote Republican, even though I feel like they do not give a shit about the troops who they send to fight and die for the US.

Edit (Update): I still have my AR-15. I still use it. I am not registered Republican, I am independent. I am not conservative, I am moderate. I am no longer a single issue voter. I am still a veteran.
