I have been backpacking for years now and I never go without a Nalgene 24oz bottle. I use this bottle for water storage first and foremost, but the Nalgene can also be used to heat water, boil food, melt snow, and make other things. This is how you do it:

1. Fill a Nalgene with water. This will be a makeshift boiler.
2. Place food or whatever in a heat-safe container and place that in a pot or other heat container. An example is a titanium pot. If you dont have a pot you can place the food directly into the fire (this is called "open pot tech.")
3. Place the filled Nalgene into the pot/container.
4. Put a fireproof weight on top of the Nalgene.
5. Light a fire underneath the Nalgene.
6. The Nalgene will heat the contents of the pot until you remove the Nalgene from the fire.
7. Drink the water from the Nalgene.

This is useful if you are backpacking, camping, or even just bugging out. You can use this technique to boil water, melt snow, make food, and also have something to drink immediately after.
