What’s the most reliable way to get your gun back if you’re arrested outside of the US?

I remember hearing stories about people who own guns in the US but it’s illegal to bring them across state lines. I’m guessing there must be a way to legally transport your gun outside of the country too. But that’s illegal too. If by any chance you get arrested and you had a gun on you, well you’re fucked, right? What’s the most reliable way to get your gun back if you were caught with it, and you were arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm?
