There's a new local crime story from a nearby city that has gotten a lot of attention. A 35 year old man named Jacob is married and has two small children. He has been a police officer for 15 years working in narcotics. One day his department did a raid of a methamphetamine dealer. Jacob was able to keep some of the meth for personal use and at home he cooked the meth down into a liquid and injected it into his circulation through the blood vessels in his genitals. Unfortunately, what Jacob didn't know was that the methamphetamine he had take was fentanyl. He overdosed and died at the scene.

This is Breaking Bad levels of stupidity. How could you not know the difference between methamphetamine and fentanyl just by looking at it? Even if it was cut with fentanyl, that's no excuse to inject directly into your circulatory system.

Jacob wasn't a good person. He was a police informant, a police rat working with local gangs. They used Jacob to take out their competition, and in return Jacob got a steady supply of drugs and protection from the law. This is reminiscent of the US government allowing drug cartels to smuggle cocaine into the U.S. in exchange for money and guns to overthrow leftist governments in Central and South America. The cartels used that money and guns to create and expand the largest and most violent drug trafficking empires in history. Now the cartels rule with an iron fist because no matter how many of them get arrested, there's always another to take their place in the hierarchy of drug trafficking.

Jacob's death is a reminder that there really is no war on drugs. The system is rigged in favor of drug traffickers and corrupt law enforcement. This should be a wake up call for everyone that we need to rethink the way we approach drug addiction. Prohibition doesn't work.
