The USA is a failed state.

Reddit is an American website. So, I’m writing this in English for maximum visibility even though my native language is Portuguese. Please mind the possible mistakes.<br><br>Let me begin by saying that my country, Brazil, is in a state of full-blown chaos and I really feel for the American people.<br><br>Brazil has a population that is 6.5% the size of the USA’s and has been (and still is) having **at least** 2.5 times the amount of daily COVID-19 deaths than the United States. The state of São Paulo alone has a population comparable to California’s and has been having more than 4 times the amount of daily deaths than the state of California, even after considering the last surge in deaths in California.<br><br>This is all despite the “best efforts” of our president and his supporters to mitigate the virus. They really aren’t doing anything to stop the virus, quite the contrary. It’s a miracle we aren’t having more deaths, considering the situation.<br><br>One would think that having 4 times the amount of deaths of the worst-hit state must be the direct result of the actions (or lack thereof) of our president and his adminstration. One would be wrong.<br><br>The truth is the USA is a failed state. The USA has the best healthcare in the world (at least that’s what they keep saying) and has had the best brains working on the problem and the best possible resources to deal with the problem. The USA has the most powerful and technologically advanced military and the most powerful and technologically advanced system of surveillance in the world. The USA has the greatest genius billionaire philanthropists (the modern day equivalent of kings) that have solved countless problems in countless areas. The USA has the best media with the greatest journalists in the world. The USA has the most technically advanced and unbiased public institutions in the world. The USA can do anything with enough **muh free market** and **bootstraps**.<br><br>Yet, the best they could do with all these incredible resources is having 4 times less daily deaths per capita than a (literal) shithole like Brazil? What the hell has the USA achieved in the last 4 years? What the hell did they do with trillions of dollars? What the hell has their leadership (both Republicans and Democrats), their media, their corporations and their think tanks achieved? What the hell have their billionaires done with their fortunes? What the hell have their institutions done to help them? What the hell are they good for? Should we be impressed? Should we be talking about the “efficiency” and “effectiveness” of their system? Should we be envious of them? Should we be (or not) scared of their (military, economic, technological, informational...) “power”? Should we be routing for them? Should we be praising them? Should we be inspired by them? What the hell did the USA achieve?<br><br>The USA is a failed state and should be treated as such.
