This may sound like quite unusual advice, but hear me out.

I’m quite a good-looking person. I have growing long curly hair, green eyes, pouty lips and a phenotype quite similar to korean people in my country so sometimes people even confuse me with a korean. I’m usually one of the prettiest person in the group without even trying to be so.

But there is a downside to all of this. People don’t usually listen to my words. They don’t even care what I’m saying. They don’t even listen to me when I talk. They are all *staring* at me instead. And I am not even exaggerating. This is such a big problem even in university classes, my professors don’t even listen when I ask something. But my friends usually get all the attention when they ask something instead. I am being ignored. People don’t even see me as a human being, they see me as a pretty doll or something like that. I don’t even get taken seriously because of my looks. And all of these are so frustrating. Being a pretty girl has no merits. I am an intelligent person, and people don’t even care about that. My achievements don’t even get noticed, and even if they do, it is *because* I’m a pretty girl. It is very dehumanizing. So I decided to look as average as I can. I’m trying to gain some weight, and I usually don’t put makeup. And for the first time, people are actually listening to me, they actually care about what I’m saying, they actually see me *me* as a person, not my looks.

Now I understand I’m privileged, I know. But try to look as average as you can. I’m not saying don’t be well-groomed. I’m just saying try to be as average as you can, and you will quickly understand why.
