How do you know its based on a real story?

Bumping into an old friend, hanging with the boys, some lassie never leaving you alone, accidentally going to the wrong school, finding your gf with another guy etc etc. We have all seen those story and we have all seen the comments and the question: how do you know this is based on a real story?
