Chambers

I'm a vet tech and I accidentally overdosed an elderly cat. It died and I went with the cover up and didn't say anything.

Senior cat comes in, elderly cat. Eye abcess. Very common. I give meds for the most part. I give meds through the day. Anesthetize, do the procedure, out and done. We machine the cats because they usually fight. I was giving the cat its anesthetic and I grabbed the wrong syringe and gave the cat 1.5x the dosage. The cat is supposed to wake up after 45 minutes and they didn't. I checked machine, checked the cat and nothing helped. It was dead. I didn't say anything. I told the owner the cat died of old age, it happened. The owner bursted in tears and left with the cat. I went and told the vet supervisor and they said to keep quiet and not to say anything. I feel horrible. I love animals. I did this because I love animals. I didn't want them to hurt. I made a mistake. I felt terrible for a week. The owners called me up and asked me if I would take care of their remains and I said of course. I love animals and I would never hurt an animal on purpose. I would never do that. The vet said to keep quiet so I did.

I still think about that cat.
