My grandmother Maria Ascencion Huerta had been on the run for 16 years. But soon, she was going to have to give herself up because she couldn't find a way to make a deal with the United States.<br><br>My grandmother and her husband had spent their entire lives in Sinaloa, working as farmers. They had one son and three daughters. When my grandfather was murdered in the 70s, my grandmother was left all alone with four young children, trying to make it in life in a country that was poor and in which she had no education.<br><br>My grandfather's death was a homicide. But my grandmother decided to take matters into her own hands and simply leave it in the past. She was now the breadwinner for the family. She worked in factories, on farms and later in her life, she made food at home to sell on the streets. She also made wine and kombucha to sell at the local markets.<br><br>When her children were adults, they decided to get involved in organized crime. At first, they sold marijuana and heroin. But she continued to work in agriculture and selling food and wine. They became rich, but this was also followed by many problems.<br><br>My grandmother's eldest son was soon arrested, and then murdered in prison. At some point, my uncle was set free, only to have him soon after be taken by the cartels, and he is still missing to this day.<br><br>But my aunts and grandmother didn't give up. In fact, they soon became the most powerful women in the underworld. They bought properties, cars, jewelry, and they invested their money in different businesses. But soon, the authorities were also after them.<br><br>She was set up by her cousins, but she managed to escape from the federal police. She was soon put on the FBI's 10 most wanted list. But she continued to work in the underworld. <br><br>She got remarried to a 20-year-old man, and they continued to make money together. My grandmother and her husband continued to work in the underworld. But he was also taken by a cartel and he is still missing.<br><br>She put a hit on some of the Government officials, she became too big of a threat to the cartels. She had millions of dollars and properties all over Mexico, and she continued to work in the underworld.<br><br>She decided to hand herself over to the authorities. But when she did, the judge was also in her pocket. She stayed in jail for a short period of time. When she got out of prison, she continued to work as a farmer.<br><br>She was never caught again. She became a renowned businesswoman and she still works in agriculture today. She is 94 years old, and the most interesting thing about her is that she is still alive.
