How would you rank the EVANGELION movies in terms of "canon"?

Apologies if this has been asked before. I don't pay attention to the polls here, but I am currently rewatching every EVANGELION production and thought I'd put it out there. In my opinion the franchise is pretty confusing for anyone partially unfamiliar with it, and I think there is also a good chance that a fairly large number of fans have never actually bothered to watch EVERY single EVANGELION production to date. <br><br>As new content keeps getting produced, and since the franchise has been ongoing for so long (and considering the fact that its main director is still alive), I thought it would be interesting to hear opinions on how you rank the EVANGELION movies in terms of "canon", preferably with a short explanation. <br><br>For example; I think you can completely skip the manga. <br><br>The "classic" series is a necessity, mainly to establish the franchise and understand context. <br><br>The three classic movies (Death/Rebirth, EoE, and Death(true)2) are all of these "alternates", and aren't really part of a shared universe, so I ranked them together in a single entry, since it's probably best to view each alternate separately, if that makes sense. <br><br>The REBUILDs are probably the most confusing part (especially for new fans), since they did things like releasing two different versions of the same movie (3.0 and 3.0+1.1), or the fact that each REBUILD movie got re-released in 4 different versions (theatrical, BD, 120fps "anniversary" BD, BD w/ the additional "premium" extras like the original storyboard for the movie), plus 3.0+1.01 with slightly changed ending audio that probably nobody noticed, plus 3.0+1.11 with completely different audio for the final ten minutes or so (and EVANGELION is an audiovisual experience). <br><br>Stuff like that makes it really tough to answer the question of "what is the 'definitive' EVANGELION experience?", especially for new fans that might have to jump through some hoops to access certain content over others, especially if they live in a country where not everything has been officially released locally. I ranked the REBUILDs in my order of release, since that is the order in which they were made, and my main concern was "canon", not the "right" order to watch them in. The fact that the 2013-2021 REBUILDs are pretty much the only ones currently considered "officially" canon by Anno & co. probably makes them the most important ones to watch if you want the definitive EVANGELION experience. <br><br>So these are my rankings from most to least relevant. <br><br>1.
