I honestly have no idea how people don't realize that they're being given an excessive amount of soda with their meal, but I don't get it.

First, the soda comes in a cup, not a bottle, which is usually 16oz, but can be 22oz, depending on the cup. Some places might have different sizes of cups too, but that's beside the point.

Second, the cup usually has a handle, meaning that when the person carrying the cup is finished drinking, they can't help but spill some soda because the cup is too heavy and they drop it. This leads to a small amount of soda spilling all over their shirt, and some spilling on the ground.

Third, the soda that spills, whether it's on their shirt or the ground, is eventually wasted, because they can't get it back off of themselves or the ground.

Lastly, the cup, which is usually made out of plastic, ends up getting discarded, wasting a resource. If you spill some of the soda out of the cup before drinking it, you can avoid wasting a resource, and also reduce the likelihood of the cup being too heavy to hold.
