In the UK we had no idea why anyone would carry a knife

I’ve been in the US for a few years now. I’m not fussy about where I live (in the south), but I am a bit cheeky about what I say sometimes. I carry a pistol all the time (I carry a knife too, but only for opening boxes). I’m British, and we had no idea why people would carry a weapon with them in everyday life, apart from weirdos. Carrying seems normal now. I still don’t understand why some people feel the need to carry such big pistols. My 380 will be fine for my needs.
