Do people in general think philosophy is unimportant and without value?

I was having a conversation with my middle class 40 year old coworker about philosophy, and she said "Philosophy means bringing a coin with me to the bakery, that's it". I asked her "So you think philosophy has no value and that philosophers do nothing?" She answered "Yes, it's not a science, it's not bringing anything new". This is not the first time I heard this, I had similar conversations with other people before (whether it's in real life or online). So I wonder, do people in general think philosophy is unimportant and without value?
