Corporations are becoming increasingly top-heavy with managers

Corporations have a growing number of managers with no idea what the job is like
-----

For decades, our company always had three levels of management: CEO, manager and then supervisor. Today, we have four levels with 2x the number of employees as previously. Our manager has been with the company for almost 20 years and is at a loss as to what managers do.

As for our supervisor, she doesn't know what they do either, but is grateful as it means she doesn't get constant calls from a district manager trying to get her to do stuff that doesn't directly benefit our store. Now she just has to deal with the store manager. Whatever the district manager wants, she tells the store manager and he in turn tells our supervisor. It's like a game of telephone and it's annoying.

I don't know if this is a common thing, but if it is, no wonder people are buying less. I can't imagine how much they are paying all these people.
