What to do when a customs agent thinks you are hiding something

I'm going to China for Spring Festival and I've packed my two favorite bottles of liquor to bring to my wife. One is Blue Label and the other is Crown Royal, both are full bottles but are 750ml or less. The Crown Royal is in a fancy purple bag. I've heard horror stories about Chinese customs, so what should I do if they stop me and say I'm breaking the law? Should I just say "oh, is it against the law to bring liquor?" Should I pretend to not speak Mandarin (it's pretty good but I could pretend if it would help)? What do you do in this situation? Should I just throw it out before we land?
